PLOT

Alright, here goes!

We've been in contact with the mods of [community profile] somarium, a game that has been considered Vatheon's "sister game" for a very long time. We've been discussing the possibility of a crossover event, and now that we've worked out the details, we're bringing it to you guys. Since it's more like a Fourth Wall Event, we are consulting both games' playerbases to see how you guys feel about it.

We can't tell you everything right now—that would ruin the future surprise and we want to save the plotting when it's closer to time. But we can tell you the basic outline and some of the technical logistics that will be at play for this event. So here's the low down:

✗ Dates: The entire event will run as a normal curse week—Sunday, April 22 through Sunday, April 29.

✗ Brief blurb. For those who are unfamiliar with Somarium's premise, it's a dreamworld with a number of mysteries surrounding the village within a city. Oh and there's a floating mountain too. The crossover event entails both games basically switching the settings and some aspects of the premise. Somarium will incorporate Vatheon's setting and premise. We will take Somarium's dream setting, shifting it to work for the curse week. The specific details are listed below and more will be revealed and explained closer to the time of the event, and Somarium's setting will also be described in-depth closer to the event itself.

✗ In addition, this is a two part event. For most of the week, characters in Vatheon will only experience the setting change. The last weekend is the only time actual character crossover will occur and where characters from both games can interact with each other. For the first portion of the event, the island above Vatheon will be transformed into Somarium's setting (this works because Somarium has an ocean around it that nobody knows about). The bubble, Vatheon itself, will remain as always for those who do not wish to participate in the altered setting. However, everyone's SFCs will transform into Somarium's altered Dreamberrys (though it will work in much the same way), and while everyone has the option of dream posts later in the week (more information will be given on this closer to the event itself), that will be up to player discretion. The second portion, however, is entirely optional. Players do not have to participate in the character crossover part of the event if they would rather not; it will not affect their characters.

✗ Part 1: 4/22-4/26—For the bulk of the week, characters will find that if they take the elevator up to the island, everything has changed. The elevator will now take you to the middle of the island, which is now a small, quaint village. Taking a look around will show that the village is surrounded by a big city, and...is that a floating mountain? But that's not all:

> Dreamberry--the Blackberry rip-off. They'll be replacing the SFCs for everyone for the week, and there's a brand new function in them: they broadcast dreams. We'll be explaining more on that closer to the event, but everyone will have a Dreamberry (though not everyone will have to have broadcast dreams).
> Ghosts. Ghosts. They are around. Why are they around? Nobody knows, but they're chill enough.
> Floating Mountaaaaain. It's kind of weird and it just driiiiifts across the sky, but maybe there's some information there...
> Aaaand more that will be revealed with time, but suffice to say, it should be loads of fun to play around with a brand new setting for a week. We'll be coming up with some events during the week as well, but for the most part it will function like an average curse week. However, there might also be some greater Vatheon plot related things occurring throughout this week, so keep your eyes peeled!

✗ Part 2: 4/27-4/29—Crossover Meetings. Over these three days, players have the option to participate in the limited fourth wall game crossover portion of the event. This is not mandatory in the slightest. The crossover logs will occur in a separate journal made just for this event to make it easier for threading. Basically, what will happen is that characters from both games will find themselves in another location that's a mashup of the two game settings. So imagine half of Espoir connected to the center plaza of Vatheon. The real purpose of the logs will be for the characters to interact with each other and even meet their double if players so desire. Instructions on how the threading will work will be posted at that time.

For those who do not wish to participate, the characters can remain in Vatheon or the altered island. However, those who are participating in the crossover meet up will disappear for that time and their absence can be noticed by those left behind.

✗ Event end: 4/30. On Monday, April 30, everything will have turned back to normal. So what the heck happened?

The curse week will end much as it normally does, with everything going back to normal. However, characters who participate in the fourthwall crossover will wake up on the returned-to-normal-island. Was the crossover event just one big dream...?

Thus, memories of the event will vary:
> All characters will remember the main week. Because there are no actual fourth walls being broken at this time, characters will remember the time they spent in the altered setting (the time period from 4/22 through 4/26).
> Limited crossover memory. Memories of the actual crossover part that occurs during the weekend (4/27 through 4/29) will be limited and optional. A player can participate in the fourth wall portion of the event and have their character not remember it at all. The character may remember everything up until that point, and then it's just a blank. Others could remember the experience, and even then it could be in part or complete. Some may believe what happened was real, others may think it was just a weird dream or mind game from the world. How that is handled is left up to the players. But rest assured, there is an opt-out option for those who want to participate in the fourth wall event, but not want their characters suffer any mental damage from the experience.

That's the basic idea behind the event as well as some of the technical logistics that should touch most of the common concerns that come along fourth wall events like these. To bring the point home, it is ONLY during the weekend that the characters from both games meet. Characters in Vatheon will not see any Somarium characters during the first portion of the event.

✗ THE POLL

Now for the poll. Please vote whether you would like this event to happen or not. We're aware that it's a pretty big change from what most are used to doing, so we want to make sure you guys feel comfortable with it. Hopefully we've provided sufficient "opt out" choices for those who are less keen on AU events in general, especially for the fourth wall portion. Due to time constraints and plotting, we would like all votes to be in by Thursday, April 5th. Thanks, everyone!

There's still plenty of time to work out any kinks and address any questions you have, so feel free to throw those at us now. Questions are welcomed, and if there's anything you'd like us to ask the Somarium mods for clarification, we can totally do that. We're also up for any suggestions you might have or what you would think would be fun to do in the alternate setting.

✗ One more thing! As you might have noticed, the dates for this would correspond with when Vatheon's applications are typically open. As we don't want to confuse brand new players, we have a few options.

One option is to skip applications entirely for the month of April. However, as we know that would be a long time to have no apps on very little notice, there are a few other options as well. We can also shift applications so that they would run the week before. Therefore, the apps would run from April 15th to April 21st.

If there are any other suggestions, we would be happy to hear them. We would like the input of you the players on what you solution you would all prefer! As with the first poll, due to the time-sensitive nature of this decision, we would like all votes in by April 5th.

This poll is anonymous.

It's definitely a change from normal, but it's also a great opportunity to do something fresh and new, so we'd love some feedback to see if you guys are comfortable with finding ways to make it work! Thanks! Lae made me do it.

As always, if there are any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to post below or contact Cal, Dees or Thorny! Apologies for the character journal--the only way to post a poll is via a paid account on Dreamwidth.

...Also this isn't an April Fool's joke, just to make everything clear.
