Is it a bird?
Gather 'round and lend us your ears.
Because we are going a bit more extravagant for the upcoming curse than normal, we wanted to give everybody a timely heads up and the opportunity to plot out some things for their characters.
Superheroes!
Vatheon will turn into the underwater equivalent of Gotham city for one week. There will be crime! Side-kicks! Bitter rivalries! A weird clown running around - oh wait, no, false alarm. That dude is always there.
We are still finalizing the last few details, but the following things will be in play.
The curse will be an AU curse
✗ What this means is that your characters will not remember their normal histories and back stories. Instead you get the chance to come up with your own back story to perfectly fit in your character's reasons for being a hero and how they came to be.
For this one week we really want this hero thing to be a central component to the characters, which is why we chose to go for an AU back story curse.
We are leaving the back stories in your hands, and you are free to stay as close or as far away from canon as you want as long as your character is still true to their canon personality. As all back stories will be AU, canon relationships or current CR does not need to reflect in these. If you wish, you are allowed to come up with shared back stories with other characters as long as all players agree.
So what about powers?
✗ Well, as we all know, many if not most superheroes have powers. Whether it is awesome spider powers, shirt-tearing Hulk powers, or even sentai team abilities, superheroes gotta have powers of some sort.
As such, your characters will also be gifted new powers of your choosing. Everybody needs to stand a fair chance at saving the day, of course. All your character's canon abilities will be locked away. You are free to make their superhero powers similar to what they already have in canon.
✗ We don't have exact limits on how many new powers you are allowed to give your character, but try and keep it reasonable. One main power and a few closer sub-powers connected to the main power is the best. So for example, say your character gains the ability to control water, perhaps they could have smaller powers such as being able to breathe underwater and speak to fish, that would be completely fine.
However, doing something along the line of giving your character the ability to control fire and electricity would be too much. We are aiming for keeping things balanced so everybody has a fair shot at getting some fun interactions from this curse.
So, new powers, spiffy. But also new bodies?
✗ In short, no. Your character is going to roughly retain the body they have now. If they are a troll, they will remain a troll, if they are a human, they will remain a human. Of course any powers beyond normal standard human ability will be nixed, but other than that they will retain their normal shapes. If they have robot parts, they will retain those robot parts. You are free to work this into your back story any which way.
How should the character's arrival to Vatheon be worked into the character's back story?
✗ You are free to come up with your character's reason for being in Vatheon yourself. You are free to assume they willingly came here to be heroic and stuff because they heard Vatheon was such a dark place, or you are free to go with them having been forcefully brought here to clean up the dark untrustworthy trash that darkens our streets.
Speaking of dark untrustworthy trash:
So what about them villains?
✗ Of course, you cannot have superheroes without super villains! We will be providing some villains and criminal activity ourselves and we are working on having it be the sort of thing that will encourage teaming up to save the day.
In addition to that, we will also be recruiting several super villains. What this means if that if you have interests in your character serving as a super villain this week, we will ask you to sign up with some info, reasons why you think your character would make a good super villain, what evil acts of villainy they might commit and so on. The sign ups are open to both villains on the silly end of the spectrum as well as the darker type.
The reason we are doing a sign up for this is just to make sure that we do not get an imbalance in the number of villains to heroes. At this point we cannot yet say how many super villains we will have, it will all depend on the kind of responses we get.
Perhaps we will whip up a super-evil league of villainy chaired and headed by none other than our lovely Head Nurse. Just watch us. We'll do it too.
: Not everyone who signs up will be picked as a villain. We will have a list of villains come Sunday update. Make sure to think of a back-up plan if you aren't picked.
You do not need to join any league of villains as well. In the form, you may say no to joining, but still be selected as a solo villain. Thank you for your time and we apologize for it not being clearer before.
So, what about death?
✗ Of course, we are will aware that people die in superhero stories.
and get revived
and die.
and get revived.
and die.
Well, you catch our drift. Because Vatheon is still mainly a silly and light game, we don't want to steer towards that much death this week. As such, we ask you to mainly stray away from fights with a fatal end. If you feel there is really no other choice for a thread, we ask you to come to us and we can discuss it. We are shooting far more for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tone here than The Dark Knight Rises.
Anything else?
✗ People are able to play supporting roles instead. If they wish to be the kid who takes photographs of the hero, the best friend, a possible romantic interest, the butler, or that dude that fixes the goddam batmobile for the seventh time this week. The possibilities are endless.
Any other questions, feel free to ask them here and we will answer them as soon as possible.

Ideas
I can detail the various types of crafting if anyone else is interested-
Re: Ideas
Like you can find Superman's strength in a lot of different canons, but you can't really find air bending from Avatar in a lot of places. So you can say air manipulation or something like that, but it might be best to avoid anything super specific/special to the canon if that makes sense.
