Event Announcement
Gather around everybody; Dees here with one more announcement.
As if next week isn't going to be exciting enough already with the new powers, new bodies, and oh god what is that even going on, there will be one more thing happening. This is designed especially for your characters to test out their new skills and is very much opt in. Namely on Saturday 9th of June, Vatheon will be hosting its first, but perhaps not last --
2 x 2 Capture TheFlagoon Flag tournament.
I know. Contain your excitement.
On Monday, after the start of the curse, characters will be able to spot the colourful posters all around the city along with the sign up lists. ICly sign up is possible until Friday the 8th; OOCly in order for us to have enough time available to pair everything up, sign ups are open until Saturday the 2nd of June, 23:59. Match and team list should be a part of the Sunday mod update opening the event.
So, how will this go down. Let me tell you.

Finally, much like the last time we held a tournament, round winners are going to be up to you guys within reason. We don't know yet how many people are interested or how many rounds there will be, but winner decision will go like this.
On Sunday, as early as possible, we will give you the team and match schedule as well as a few deadlines. Before that deadline, you are free to decide who is the winner along with the other people involved in your match. You can do this any way you like, whether you have a long in depth discussion on your characters strengths and weaknesses or if you just draw straws. Once the deadline passes or if not decision can be reached, we will pick the winner for you. This is to keep things moving so people don't get stuck in a match not knowing if they won or not.
On the day of the actual event, we will toss up a large log which can be used for mingling in the field area/hanging out before and after the matches/get some fun things from the vendors. It will also have a section available where you will be able to play out your matches if you wish. Remember winners will already have been decided by this point, but nothing wrong with having some fun. Of course, matches can always be hand waved. Whichever you want.
If you have any further questions, this post will include a question section and me and Thorny will try and answer your questions ASAP. There will also be a sign up thread, separated in team sign up and single player sign up. You can use the rest of the post for plotting.
Aaaand. That's it. Congrats for making it this far, you just read just over a thousand words devoted to a fakey-fake capture the flag game.

Teams
2 x 2 Capture The Flag will be played in a team of 2 people. Your character has the option of signing up together with another character and creating their own team --please include suitably ridiculous team title-- or signing up alone. Once the deadline passes, we will take the list of individuals and randomize it to create teams. In the event of an uneven team list |
Game location
The game will be held in the forest quadrant where several clearly marked fields will have been set out for the teams. Nearby there will be a field with refreshments available for players and spectators alike. This will also be the perfect place for resting between matches. The event is pretty big, so you can also find some vendors and other small games here. The game fields are just regular patches of forest, so they have everything that you might find in a normal forest: trees --both fallen and upright--, large rocks, slopes, hills, anything you can imagine really. Don't expect a level clean playing field. We are being hardcore. Each team will have a small marked area at the end of their field as their base. |
Rules and progress of the game
The rules and the game are pretty simple. 15 minutes before the start of each match, the members of the team are given their flag to hide in their field. Once the signal sounds the match is off. There is no set ending time. The game is only over if: a, the flag of the other team is captured and brought back to home base. B, one of the teams is disqualified for breaking the rules. C, one of the teams forfeits. The rules, luckily, are simple. -- The flag may not be buried or hidden above 2 meters / 6 and a half feet above the ground. This is to equal out the advantage between flying and non-flying characters. Flags may be hidden anywhere within the team's terrain. Creative use of nature is encouraged. -- Characters may use any type of tactic to capture the flag, as long as there is no significant damage to the playing field and the other players remain unharmed. Wrestling someone for the flag is fine; punching is not allowed; throwing a tree at someone is just right out. -- Characters may not leave the field. Doing so will result in a forfeit. The outside perimeter will be marked. Of course, luring the opposite team across that line is totally fine. -- Use of powers is fine and encouraged as long as it does not result in damage to either the playing field or the other team. -- In the very unlikely event of a tie, the team with the best name wins. |
Misc
It will, of course, be structured as a tournament. The amount of rounds is going to depend on how many people sign up. We'll know for sure on Sunday. The tournament does come with a prize! Apart from having the high honour of being able to call themselves official Capture The Flag Champion of Vatheon, first prize winners --and possibly second and third, depending on amount of people entering-- will get a small amount of star fish tokens. All people entering will also receive an official Capture The Flag Vatheon Mug (limited edition) |
