+1 curse update
All right! Here is the promised update post regarding the upcoming curse. Because this is going to be a bit of a bigger curse, we wanted to give you all the chance to really read everything and digest the info in chunks rather than get overwhelmed.
So here it is, the upcoming curse is
A return of the RPG curse!
Now, this is a repeat of a curse we did before, nearly two years back. Some of our older players might remember it, but please do read this update carefully because there will be some different things this time.
So, what is happening?
Well, that is simple! Vatheon is changing to the setting of an RPG. The city itself will become a little more rustic, but the real change comes to the surrounding quadrants and the island. Suddenly you will find that all your favourite video game tropes are very much alive: random bandits? Check! Wild animals for the attacking? Double check. Strange potion shops? Just look to your left! Everything that you can think of will probably present in some degree. On Sunday we will detail all the changes!
What will happen to my character?
When your character wakes up on Monday, they will realize that their normal powers and abilities are all locked away or gone. Instead, they will have a new character class. They will have clothing that corresponds to that class, as well as weapons fit for it. What sort of clothing and weapon exactly is up to you. Just as long as it is roughly befitting of the class it will be allowed. Maybe you really dig the bard outfit from Homestuck in which case your character could wear that. Or maybe you prefer the bard outfit from one of the Final Fantasy games. No problem! Pick whichever pleases you the most. Throughout the curse, your character will only be allowed to wear those clothes within reason. Of course they can take them off for sleeping or showers, but they will soon realize that even if they put on a completely different outfit, said outfit will soon change to the one that Vatheon saw fit to put them in the first place.
In addition to clothing and weapons fit for that class, they will also have a new set of skills. What skills? Well, that is up to you! As you can see, underneath each class, there is a list of skills available for that class. Each class gets a certain amount of skill slots. You are free to pick any skills you want, as long as they fall within your class. As your character levels up, they will learn addition skills, and eventually also be able to learn skills of higher tiers. We will reveal the second tier skills on Sunday, and the third tier skills later during the curse. You won't be able to unlock them yet anyway, so don't worry about them yet.
Everybody will start out on level one, so all current power differences will be erased between characters when they participate in the curse.
In addition, your character will receive a badge. This badge records your characters username, their class, their stats, their skills and their earned points. By pressing it, the badge will recite the information, so that is one way for your character to figure out exactly what new skills they have been gifted with.
How will my character level?
By participating in the curse, your character will slowly level up. For more information on this, please wait until Sunday when we will reveal that part of the curse. However don't worry. Leveling up is not dependent on battling. Your character will still be able to level without ever getting in a fight. Additionally, your character's class won't affect their leveling. It might make certain requirements for leveling easier or harder, but nothing will be undo-able regardless of what class you pick. We also encourage your characters to work together while leveling up, creating parties (no three person limit here) and doing so will not be penalized.
Similarly there is no need for your character to level. If you just want to have fun separate from what we will offer for character leveling, you are absolutely free to! Maybe your new mage just wants to juggle fireballs and that is fine. Do whatever is the most fun to you.
Do my character's normal skills need to fit their chosen class?
No! Not at all. If you want to make your normally pacifistic character a warrior, go for it. If you want to make your normally damage dealing hulk a heal-focused cleric, go for it. We won't judge. But we might laugh.
Is this curse optional?
This curse is totally optional! Well, to some degree. Even if your character is not involved, Vatheon's appearance will change for them too. They are free to comment on it, of course. Your character will also be as free as always to interact with everybody they wish. The only thing they will not be able to do is participate in the leveling system that we will reveal on Sunday. This because their normal powers might very heavily unbalance the system.
How long will this curse last?
Ah, there is a bit of a difference there. This curse will last two weeks.
Two weeks?
Two weeks! Our reason for this is that your characters will be able to win something from participating in this curse by gaining points. We want to give everybody a fair chance to make as many points as they can, so we made the curse last a bit longer. This will also give us a chance to give you a bigger amount of different things to do without things feeling very cluttered. Our intention is to reveal things to your throughout those two weeks so every few days a few new things should become available to you. We are also hoping to take your characters' actions into affect. So maybe if your character chooses to act in a certain way, this will hold repercussions during the rest of the curse.
My character can win something?
Indeed! The character with the most points at the end of the two weeks will get the chance to retrieve something from home. We are hoping to be as accommodating with this as possible. Basically, as long as you are not asking for an actual character, and the thing you are asking for is something that your character, at their canon point, knows about and has some rough claim of ownership to, they will be able to have it. Even if the object in question has been destroyed, Vatheon will still retrieve it for them. Animals are fine too (as long as they do not have enough personality to be appable). Size matters not.
Okay, it matters a little bit. We will try and retrieve even the biggest things for you, but Vatheon will not alter the items in any way. So, you could wish for your gundam back, but considering its size, it's just going to stand on the island and be a really interesting landmark.
Basically, once we calculate who the winner is, us mods will sit down with them and try and figure out some kind of item together that will make all of us happy. Of course, if you want your character to wish for a useless, too big object and only realize that once it is already here, that is fine! We can work with this.
And how can my character win again?
Your character will win by having the most points by the end of the curse. They will gain points by participating in the curse, and similarly as with the leveling, gaining points is not solely dependent on battling. On Sunday we will reveal the exact system for gaining points. We can say however, that the system will be requirement based, with you linking us to certain things you have done to get your points so there will be some accountability. This time, the winner won't be decided on a coin toss. Instead good old fashioned effort and participation will decide the winner.
And just as before, the class you pick won't affect your character's chance of winning. If there are two winners, everybody will get half a gundam.
What about character death? If my character does battle can they die?
If your character engages NPC enemies in battle, they won't be able to die, no. They might get knocked out (and can possibly be revived by other characters) but if nobody else is nearby for revival, the NPC monsters will lose interest and leave the character alone. At which point some friendly nurses from the clinic will come and retrieve the fallen character, reviving them instead.
I'm not good with numbers, how will I calculate my character's damage?
You won't have to! Basically, because this is just a two week curse, we are not getting too exact with this. As you can see on the class info page, each different class has their rough stats which you can use to extrapolate rough damage dealt. It won't be necessary to log out battles unless you want to, not even for the participation points. Tactic discussions or playing out the aftermath of a battle will net you as many points as playing out the battle itself. Just use your common sense and be reasonable.
About the beast master class, what animals can I choose?
We'll leave that up to you, but keep in mind: nothing legendary, unless there already is a connection to your character. No bigger than a bull but keep in mind that these animals will be with your character the full two weeks. They do not get summoned or recalled in pokeballs, they will be right there. The bigger an animal, the stronger and more capable of carrying characters, but at the same time, they might not be so capable of going in caves. The animals can be something from your character's home world too. If you aren't sure, drop us a line and we can work it out.
I have a question not answered here.
Comment to this page and we will gladly answer it for you ASAP. Please make sure to post your questions in the designated thread. The rest of the post will be open to reactions and plotting, so if you do not post your question in there we cannot guarantee that we will see it. Thank you.
